Visitors - What should I expect when I visit a Bovingdon Baptist Church service for the first time?
We know it's not easy visiting a church for the first time. You may be asking yourself questions such as: Where do I park? Will anyone speak to me? Will they ask me for money? Is there anything on for my children? We understand how this might feel feel, so we thought we would provide some information that might make your visit a bit easier...
Parking - the best place to park is in Apple Cottages, which is the first right off Old Dean. A map can be found on the 'Directions' page.
Access - there is wheelchair access to both the front and rear doors from the High Street and Apple Cottages. All the main facilities are on the ground floor, including a new disabled toilet.
Worship - our services are relaxed and informal. Although the service starts at 10.30am, please feel free to arrive earlier. The doors are open from 10am onwards and there will be someone to make you feel welcome.
We usually begin with notices, followed by some singing. Although the collection bag is passed round, many of us give by standing order. We don't expect visitors to put money in. The children then leave for their own Sunday Club class. Parents with babies are more than welcome to stay in to the whole service. A blanket and toys can be put out for babies to play on.
After some more songs we have the talk, through which, week by week we are encouraged, inspired and challenged. We usually have communion on the second Sunday of each month. The service ends between 11.30am and midday. After the service most people stay for a drink and chat. We are available each week for anyone who wishes to be prayed for.
What else goes on - once a term we have a service specifically tailored for children, which are well attended by the local Brownie and Rainbow groups. Holiday clubs or fun days are also put on. Two housegroups meet, Wednesday evenings and Thursday mornings, alternate weeks during term time. A coffee morning meets twice a month on a Monday morning. There are also other social events, such as the men going out for a curry together...
